A calm online maths companion that helps your child find the step beneath a hard question, work it through, and reach the answer themselves.
From Pollyana Academy. Coming soon.
Most maths help corrects a child the moment they slip, and hands them the answer. Held to Think does the opposite. When a question becomes hard, it gently helps your child find the smaller step underneath it, settle that step, and then return to the original question and reach it on their own.
It does not give the answer, and it does not mark work right or wrong. It helps your child prove the answer to themselves, and explain, in their own words, why it holds.
Children working in maths from about two years before the 11-plus, through Key Stage 3, to GCSE and IGCSE, across the main exam boards. You tell us your child's stage and board when you join, and the work is shaped to them. A separate programme for life-long maths beyond GCSE is planned for later.
You hold the account and set things up; your child does the work in a calm, maths-only space. After each session you receive a short, plain summary of what your child met and steadied, and a gentle next step. Nothing is shown as a score, and nothing is dressed up.
Held to Think is built for children, with care taken from the start.
We are completing our data protection and safeguarding work before any child uses the companion, which is why we are opening to a small group of early-access families first.
For every family that subscribes, we set aside free places for children who could not otherwise take part. More on this when we open.
Register your interest and be among the first families invited to try Held to Think. We will only email you about Held to Think, and you can leave the list at any time.
One email at most, only about Held to Think. Unsubscribe any time.
This summer, Pollyana offers a live, one-to-one month for a small number of children, The Summer Thinking Space.
